JOHN THE BAPTIST is a portrait study in graphite after the drawing by Andrea del Sarto. The artist made the study in 1522 in preparation for “Saint John The Baptist” perhaps one of del Sarto’s greatist oil paintings. I love the way the artist creates volume and mass, modeling the head and face in three dimensions.
