Rear Male Torso in Graphite

REAR MALE TORSO is a study in graphite of Plate 1, 56 from the 19th century Drawing Course by Charles Bargue. The torso is more than likely the remnant of a full-figure standing male, probably an athlete or political hero, in the tradition of the fifth century BC Greek Master Sculptor, Polykleitos, who wrote a book on the proportions of the human body.
